This smaller sized mate is beautifully carved in the shape of a gourd out of Palo Santo wood and varnished with a gloss finish.  Palo Santo is a unique extremely hard wood grown in the Chaco region of Paraguay. Known for its pleasant aromatic scent, Palo Santo is used for its durability as well as its superior thermal qualities. Aprox. Dimensions: Height 3.25", Diameter 2".

Not sure if it's a defect, but.. March 31, 2008

Both round mates that I ordered have cracked after only 2 uses.  I followed the directions that were included, using only hot water (not boiling water) along with the yerba mate 2/3 full.

I'm not sure why this happened, as I can't imagine what else would go in a mate besides hot liquid.
